Blepharoplasty

The delicate skin around the eyes is often the first to show signs of wrinkling. Blepharoplasty is the removal of excess skin and fatty tissue from the upper and lower eyelids. It can create a more alert appearance by eliminating wrinkled folds of skin on the upper lids and bags under the eyes. Expression wrinkles such as crow's feet and smile lines will not be eliminated with blepharoplasty only, but can be addressed with the CO2 laser or Botox therapy.

Heredity and lifelong allergies often cause eyelid problems. However, most undesirable eyelid appearances are simply a result of the aging process. Because there is a natural loss of elasticity in the skin, fatty tissue pockets under the eyes start to bulge out of the eye socket creating bags under the eyes. Skin above the eyes sags which, in some people, can actually inhibit peripheral vision.

The eyes are often the place where patients start with cosmetic surgery. The blepharoplasty procedures are well tolerated and produce excellent results with the discomfort being minimal. Usually within a week or two after surgery, many patients are able to resume all normal activities. Blepharoplasty provides subtle improvement to the overall face by helping the patient look more alert, healthy, and well rested.
